In the proximity of Kühlungsborn there is a uniquely beautiful landscape called “Kühlung”. Heavy fissures, gorges, dells, small pools and brooks shape this popular destination and you can get wonderful views from the hills that rise up to 128 meters around this region. This area is perfect for bike, horse riding, and walking tours.

Another wonderful view is from the lighthouse of Bastorf near Kühlungsborn. The cylindric brick building was built in 1878 and is erected at the highest elevation of any beacon along the German Baltic Coast.

The historical narrow-gauge railway “Molli” shuttles between Bad Doberan and Kühlungsborn with a stopover in Heiligendamm. This train is part of this regions
historic past, and also a tourist attraction at the same time. Visit Bad Doberan, a town with beautiful and historically significant works of northern German brick architecture, and also take a trip to the oldest seaside resort along the Baltic coast - Heiligendamm.

During summer there are regular ship tours departing from the pier to Warnemünde and Grömitz. If you prefer solid ground beneath your shoes, there are many Hanseatic cities along the coast that are worth a visit, like Greifswald, Stralsund, Rostock, Wismar and Lübeck. These cities are of historic interest dating from the medieval period, but also have modern shops, and hold exhibitions of contemporary art. Rostock's zoo is home to 1500 animals and 250 different species and is a super day out for old and young.
